Immutable zkEVM is a game-focused chain opened in January 2024 by the game company Immutable. It is built with Polygon’s CDK and is EVM-compatible, so ordinary Ethereum apps run on it.
It keeps transaction data off Ethereum (a validium), which keeps fees low but means it does not borrow Ethereum’s security in full. Gas is paid in IMX. It is a different chain from the company’s older NFT chain, Immutable X (StarkEx).
Built with Polygon CDK by the studio behind Gods Unchained and Guild of Guardians, Immutable zkEVM provides turnkey infrastructure for Web3 game developers, including social login via Immutable Passport and gas-free player onboarding.
To keep high-frequency in-game item minting and trading costs near zero, it operates as a validium—keeping transaction data off Ethereum while using zero-knowledge proofs for state transitions.
