Polygon PoS
A sidechain with its own validator set — an island linked to Ethereum only by its PoS bridge. One of the oldest satellite towns.
Polygon PoS, which started in 2020 as Matic Network, is one of the oldest chains built to scale Ethereum. It is a sidechain secured by its own validators.
Low fees and a long track record have made it popular for payments, games and enterprise services. Since September 2024 its gas token has been POL rather than MATIC.
Polygon PoS has processed billions of transactions since 2020, serving as one of the most widely adopted EVM networks for enterprise brands, prediction markets like Polymarket, and global stablecoin payments via Stripe and fintech partners.
Secured by its own Heimdall and Bor validator layers, the network upgraded its native token from MATIC to POL in September 2024 as part of its broader transition toward the Polygon Agglayer.
