Cronos
The EVM L1 of the Crypto.com ecosystem, built on Cosmos technology and connected to Ethereum through bridges.
Cronos is an EVM L1 opened by Crypto.com in November 2021. It puts the Ethereum Virtual Machine on top of the Cosmos SDK, connecting to Cosmos chains through IBC and to Ethereum through bridges.
The ecosystem sits close to the Crypto.com exchange and app; CRO is both the gas and the governance token. The Cronos island in this city shows only the EVM chain (the separate Cronos zkEVM is not included).
Backed by Crypto.com, Cronos pairs the Ethereum Virtual Machine with the Cosmos SDK, enabling it to run standard Solidity dApps while also speaking the Inter-Blockchain Communication (IBC) protocol.
It serves as the primary on-chain gateway for Crypto.com’s global retail app and cardholder base, using CRO as its native gas and staking asset.
