Arbitrum One
The L2 with the deepest DeFi liquidity. 0.25-second blocks and permissionless fraud proofs (Stage 1).
Arbitrum One is the optimistic rollup Offchain Labs opened in August 2021. It is regarded as the L2 with the deepest DeFi liquidity — lending, derivatives and exchanges.
The Nitro upgrade in 2022 raised its performance, the ARB governance token followed in 2023, and BoLD brought permissionless validation in 2025. Blocks come about every 0.25 seconds.
Arbitrum One’s technical edge stems from its WASM-based Nitro engine and Stylus upgrade, which allow developers to write high-performance smart contracts in Rust, C, and C++ alongside standard Solidity. This efficiency has made it the premier hub for perpetuals DEXs, options protocols, and deep lending markets.
On the decentralization front, Arbitrum deployed its BoLD dispute protocol in 2025, enabling permissionless fraud-proof validation resilient against delay attacks and cementing its L2BEAT Stage 1 status with the deepest DeFi TVL among Ethereum L2s.
