JasmyCoin (JASMY): A Japanese IoT Token for Owning Your Own Data
Personal-data lockers and the JasmyChain layer 2
JASMY is the token of Jasmy, which began in Tokyo with a ‘data democracy’ idea: people should control the personal data their smart devices create and be paid for it. In January 2026 JasmyChain, a dedicated network that uses JASMY for fees, entered full operation.
1. ‘Data democracy’ from Sony alumni
Jasmy grew out of a company founded in Tokyo in April 2016 by former Sony executives, including Kunitake Ando. It argues that personal data generated by Internet of Things (IoT, internet-connected device) products should be managed by individuals rather than monopolized by companies, and that people should be paid when they share it.
JASMY is an ERC-20 token (Ethereum’s standard token format) with a total supply of 50 billion. On the Crypto Nation map, JASMY stands in Ethereum City (the capital), because it was first issued on Ethereum.
2. How the data locker is meant to work
The core of the plan is an encrypted ‘Personal Data Locker’. Data from a user’s devices, such as a smartwatch’s health records or a car’s driving logs, is stored encrypted, and companies or services that want to use it must obtain consent and pay in JASMY. The pitch is that users decide which data goes to whom and receive the reward.
The token is designed as the payment unit for such deals, and in Jasmy’s concept the blockchain keeps a transparent record of consent and payment. JasmyChain, in full operation since January 2026, is an Ethereum-compatible layer 2 (a chain that processes transactions more cheaply on top of Ethereum) built with Arbitrum Orbit, with JASMY as its fee token. Jasmy says it aims for low costs and high throughput for AI and Web3 services.
3. Uses and key dates
In concept, JASMY is used to pay for access to personal data and for fees on JasmyChain, so activity on the chain ties into the token’s use. Jasmy’s services have been presented mainly around IoT platforms and corporate collaborations, so how far a market where individuals earn from their data has actually opened needs separate checking.
Key dates: the company’s founding in April 2016, the issuance of the Ethereum-based JASMY token and the completion of JasmyChain’s mainnet (live network) migration in January 2026. An official post dated 17 January 2026 said the migration was finished and production operations had begun.
4. Things to know
The idea of individuals earning from their data has not yet been shown at large scale, so it helps to separate token demand from real data deals from demand that comes mainly from exchange trading. Personal-data dealing is strongly shaped by privacy and consent laws in Japan, Korea and elsewhere, and shared data is hard to take back, so consent management and liability after a breach matter.
JasmyChain leans on Ethereum and Arbitrum Orbit technology, and how decentralized its operation becomes remains to be seen. With a very large token supply, allocation, release schedules and dependence on the company are further points to check.
