Plasma

Mainnet since September 2025. An EVM L1 built for stablecoin (USDT) payments — basic USDT transfers are free. Bridges connect it to Ethereum.

Plasma is an EVM L1 whose mainnet beta opened on 25 September 2025. It is built for stablecoins, above all USDT payments: basic USDT transfers are free because the chain itself pays the fee.

Execution uses the Ethereum client Reth, consensus is PlasmaBFT, and it advertises anchoring its records to Bitcoin. Fees for more complex transactions are paid in XPL or USDT; it is an independent L1 chain distinct from the 2017 Ethereum off-chain scaling concept of the same name.

Plasma is a specialized EVM Layer 1 engineered around global stablecoin commerce, particularly USDT. Through protocol-level paymasters, basic USDT transfers execute with zero user gas fees—eliminating the need for everyday users to hold a separate gas token.

Built on the Rust-based Reth execution client and PlasmaBFT consensus, it also anchors state checkpoints to the Bitcoin network to reinforce long-term censorship resistance.
