Provenance Blockchain (HASH): A Chain Built for Financial Services
Built by Figure, handed to a foundation, used for lending
Provenance Blockchain is a public blockchain designed for creating, trading and recording financial products such as loans, and HASH is its native coin. Though handed to a nonprofit foundation, it remains closely tied to the fintech company Figure that built it.
1. Built by Figure, handed to a foundation
Provenance was developed by Figure Technologies, a fintech lender known for home-equity products, for its own financial services. The nonprofit Provenance Blockchain Foundation now stewards it as an open, public chain, while Figure, a Nasdaq-listed company (FIGR), uses it as the system of record for loan origination, securitizations and fund administration.
On the Crypto Nation map, HASH is the city-hall tower of the Provenance neighbourhood in Mainnet Province, because it is that chain’s own coin. Financial assets are tokenized on the chain, for example Figure’s interest-bearing YLDS security token.
2. A proof-of-stake chain for finance
Provenance is a proof-of-stake chain built with the Cosmos SDK (a toolkit for building blockchains), where validators (operators who stake coins and confirm blocks) check transactions. HASH is described as a utility token for fees, staking and governance votes. Financial firms are often noted among its validators.
Its core purpose is to put creating, financing and trading financial assets on one ledger. Figure Lending offers home equity lines of credit and mortgage refinances, and records each loan on Provenance through electronic-note (eNote) technology, so the note, lien data, servicing records and securitization data share one ledger. One explainer calls this ‘every loan is born digital’.
3. Uses and milestones
In February 2025 Figure Markets opened an exchange for crypto and tokenized securities, and YLDS, an SEC-registered, interest-bearing security token, launched on Provenance. Figure itself listed on Nasdaq in September 2025. YLDS expanded to Solana in November 2025 and to Stellar on 5 May 2026.
In December 2025 Figure proposed supporting the Foundation’s operations; the community voted in favor on 14 January 2026, and Figure announced on 21 January that it would carry it out. The Foundation stays independent, and the two are preparing a redesign of HASH tokenomics that introduces network fees to reward validators and delegators.
4. Things to know
The main risk is dependence on one company. In its January 2026 announcement Figure said it held roughly a quarter of HASH, and the chain’s main user is Figure’s own business. Governance needs on-chain approval by HASH holders, and Figure and the Foundation said they will not vote Foundation-controlled HASH, but the concentration of influence remains.
Because the chain handles financial products, it is exposed to loan delinquencies, interest rates and rules on tokenized securities. How the January 2026 tokenomics redesign was finalized is best checked in official notices. Asset figures for the chain mostly come from Figure itself, so independent sources are worth consulting.
