Frontier Province
The outskirts, where coins that fit no other city gather.
At a glance

Coins whose home chain is missing from the data, or whose sector has too few coins for a province of its own, gather here. Old stand-alone chains and small stablecoins are mixed together.
Every weekly registry rebuild checks each coin’s home chain again, so when the data improves a coin moves to its proper city.
📰 The story of this city: Frontier Province: A Home for Coins That Fit No Other City
Frontier Province collects coins whose home chain is unclear or whose sector is too small for any city. Old independent chains such as Steem, Hive, Arweave and Ravencoin sit beside small-chain tokens and stablecoins.
A province for coins that belong nowhere else
On the Crypto Nation map, a coin stands in the city of the chain where it was first issued. Chains with many coins, such as Ethereum or Solana, become cities, while similar coins are grouped into provinces, like ‘Mainnet Province’ for independent chains. Frontier Province holds what fits nowhere else, so few of the site’s top 1,000 coins live here.
A coin lands here either because its first-issued chain cannot be identified or because its sector is too small for a province of its own. So the coins here share little in technology or use, and ‘Frontier’ reflects how coins are sorted, not rank or quality.
Three kinds of coin share the district
Three groups are mixed here. First, older coins with their own blockchains: Steem and Hive, social-media chains whose blocks are made by ‘witnesses’ elected by holder votes; Arweave, a storage network promising long-term keeping for a one-time fee; and Ravencoin, a proof-of-work chain on Bitcoin’s code built for issuing assets as tokens. Second, tokens issued on small chains such as PulseChain or Alephium.
Third, stablecoins (coins designed to hold the value of a currency such as the dollar) and tokenized funds (fund shares turned into blockchain tokens) that fit no city; an issuer often holds the assets, so trust in the issuer matters more than technology. Designs and risks differ widely here, so read each coin’s own entry.
Uses and how they got here
On Steem and Hive, people earn coin rewards for writing and upvoting posts in social apps. Arweave pitches paying for storage once up front, and Ravencoin builds asset-token issuance into the chain itself. PulseChain is a separate chain that began by copying Ethereum’s balance records and opened in 2023.
Key dates: Steem launched in 2016, Ravencoin in January 2018 and Arweave’s mainnet in 2018. In March 2020 part of the Steem community split off as Hive after a dispute over the acquisition of Steemit Inc., Steem’s builder, and PulseChain launched in May 2023. The district formed not in one wave but from projects of different eras and purposes.
Things to know
Being in the frontier means neither safe nor risky. But coins with an unclear home chain or sector offer little to verify, and small coins can swing sharply when trading is concentrated on a few exchanges. Older chains may lose developers and users, so check that they are still actively developed.
Chains with large holders, like the Steem-Hive split, can face governance disputes, and tokens bridged from other chains can drift from the original’s value. Stablecoins and tokenized funds depend on the issuer’s reserves, redemption ability and national rules. The province’s makeup changes as data is updated, so check each coin in official sources.
