NEAR Protocol is a proof-of-stake blockchain that started in 2020. It scales with “Nightshade”, splitting the chain into shards that are processed at the same time, and human-readable account names such as name.near make it easy to use.
Co-founder Illia Polosukhin is one of the authors of the Transformer paper behind today’s AI language models, and NEAR puts its effort into AI and into “chain abstraction”, letting people use many chains as if they were one. NEAR is its own coin.
