Stellar is a payments blockchain started in 2014 by Jed McCaleb and Joyce Kim, supported by a non-profit, the Stellar Development Foundation. Without mining, nodes that trust each other agree through the Stellar Consensus Protocol (SCP), settling transactions in seconds.
“Anchors” such as banks and remittance firms connect real money with digital assets, and many stablecoins and real-world-asset tokens are issued here. Smart contracts (Soroban) have run since 2024. XLM is its own coin.
