Arbitrum One is an optimistic rollup built by Offchain Labs, opened in August 2021. It executes transactions off Ethereum quickly and cheaply, posts them to Ethereum in batches, and lets anyone challenge a wrong result within a set window (a fraud proof) so it can be corrected.
Fees are paid in ETH; ARB, launched in March 2023, is the governance token of the Arbitrum DAO. DeFi — lending, derivatives, exchanges — settled here early, and other chains built with the same technology (Orbit) lean on Arbitrum too. In this map it is a capital-region city right next to the capital.
