A bytecode-compatible zkEVM rollup.
Scroll is a zkEVM rollup whose mainnet opened in October 2023. It is built to run the same bytecode as Ethereum, so existing apps can move over unchanged.
The SCR token launched in 2024. An upgrade in April 2025 took it to Stage 1, but in June 2026 its independent Security Council was replaced by a multisig run by the team, and L2BEAT moved it back to Stage 0.
Developed in close collaboration with Ethereum Foundation researchers, Scroll engineered a bytecode-compatible zkEVM so that existing Ethereum smart contracts and developer tools work out of the box without modification.
Scroll has invested heavily in hardware-accelerated zero-knowledge proving and hosts a growing ecosystem of DeFi protocols and emerging-market payment rails.
