XDC Network: The Enterprise Chain for Trade Finance and RWAs

An EVM-compatible hybrid chain with vetted validators

XDC Network is a layer-1 blockchain aimed at business uses such as trade finance (financing of import and export payments) and real-world asset tokenization, and XDC is its own coin. It is compatible with Ethereum but chooses its validators instead of letting anyone join.

1. An enterprise hybrid chain that began in Singapore

XDC Network traces back to XinFin, a project that started in Singapore. Co-founded by Atul Khekade, Ritesh Kakkad and others, it was first sold as a token on Ethereum (XDCE) and became the native coin XDC when its own mainnet (the live network) opened in June 2019. The XDC Foundation and others now grow its ecosystem.

On the Crypto Nation map, XDC stands in Mainnet Province as the city-hall tower of the XDC chain, because it is a blockchain’s own coin. It is a hybrid: businesses can attach private sub-networks to the open public chain, which is why it calls itself an enterprise-grade public chain.

2. XDPoS, masternodes and subnets

XDC uses delegated proof-of-stake called XDPoS. ‘Masternodes’ that lock up a set amount of XDC and pass identity checks (KYC) produce and verify blocks, a curated design chosen for speed and regulatory comfort. It is compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM), so Ethereum tools such as Solidity work as they are.

Companies handle sensitive data in private ‘subnets’ and periodically anchor a record of it on the public mainnet, aiming for both privacy and verifiability. XDC pays fees, is staked and is used for governance, and the network says it is compatible with ISO 20022, the messaging standard used between banks.

3. Where it is used, and what happened

Its main uses are trade finance, which digitizes documents such as letters of credit and invoices, real-world asset (RWA) tokenization of items like government bonds, private credit and property, and cross-border business payments. On 17 September 2025 Circle announced that USDC and CCTP V2, its standard for moving USDC between chains, were live on XDC Network.

In 2026 companies such as Animoca Brands, NTT DOCOMO GLOBAL and Republic joined its validator set, and cooperation with Stripe’s stablecoin infrastructure, Bridge, was reported. Trade finance pilots are testing vLEI, a verifiable legal entity identifier that lets firms prove their identity on chain.

4. Things to know

A curated validator set helps speed and compliance but is far from the decentralization public chains promise. Calling a network ISO 20022 compatible does not mean banks and firms use it at scale, and many announced cases are pilots, so the real scale needs separate checking.

Trade finance and RWA tokenization are contested by Ethereum, Stellar, Hedera and others, and the legal status of tokenized assets differs by country. Reported usage is also far below the throughput the network advertises, and stories of corporate adoption inflate easily, so separate real usage data from announcements.
