Quant (QNT): Licensing Token for Overledger, Linking Banks and Chains
A UK company’s enterprise tool for connecting ledgers
Quant Network builds Overledger, software that helps banks and businesses connect to many blockchains and existing payment systems at once. Its token, QNT, is used to access and pay for these services.
1. Who makes it
Gilbert Verdian, who had worked in cybersecurity, government and finance, founded Quant Network in the UK in 2015 and leads it as chief executive. QNT was issued as an ERC-20 token on Ethereum after an April 2018 token sale. Unsold tokens were burned that September, fixing total supply at about 14.6 million.
Quant is a company selling to enterprise clients, not a foundation running a public chain. There is no DAO or on-chain voting, and QNT gives holders neither equity nor voting rights. On the Crypto Nation map, QNT stands in Ethereum City (the capital), where it was first issued.
2. How Overledger and Fusion work
Overledger is a middle layer: an application connects once to reach ledgers such as Ethereum, Bitcoin, Hyperledger Fabric and R3 Corda, plus conventional systems. Developers use one API, an agreed interface between programs, to issue, move and track assets without learning each chain. A bank could, for example, manage tokens on many chains from one system.
On June 2, 2026, Quant put its Fusion rollup on mainnet. Called ‘Layer 2.5’ because it anchors records to several networks at once rather than one parent chain, it aims to let institutions manage copies of an asset on different chains as one balance. QNT pays for or is locked against Overledger licenses and, in the multi-ledger rollup design, serves node staking and fees.
3. Where it is used
Quant’s customers are mainly banks, payment firms and public institutions, and it has focused on tokenized deposits, bank deposits represented as on-chain tokens, and programmable money that executes under set conditions. In September 2026 The Clearing House, owned by major US banks, picked Quant to provide infrastructure for its On-Chain Money tokenized-deposit initiative.
The network aims to link tokenized deposits with US payment rails such as RTP and CHIPS and is planned to open in the first half of 2027. Unlike privately issued stablecoins, tokenized deposits are bank deposits themselves, one way banks are adopting blockchains. Public materials often do not show what role QNT plays in such deals.
4. Things to know
The ecosystem depends heavily on one company. Operations are centralized, with Quant as the sequencer ordering rollup transactions, and clients risk being locked into a single supplier. Since QNT carries no governance rights, holders have little say over company decisions.
License fees are set per year, so bigger payment volumes need not mean more QNT demand, and partnership news need not mean more token use. Anchoring to many chains adds complexity, and the legal and accounting treatment of assets moving between chains is still unsettled.
