Monero started in April 2014, and every transaction on it is private by default. Ring signatures (mixing the sender among others), stealth addresses (hiding the receiver) and hidden amounts (RingCT) work together, so the ledger does not show who paid whom how much.
It uses a proof of work that ordinary computers (CPUs) can mine (RandomX), and since 2022 a “tail emission” keeps adding 0.6 XMR per block. Because of its privacy, some exchanges have stopped trading it.
