Avalanche is a blockchain opened in September 2020 by Ava Labs, founded by Emin Gün Sirer. Its “Avalanche consensus” repeatedly polls randomly chosen validators to reach agreement fast, finalising transactions within a second or two.
Its centre is the C-Chain, which runs Ethereum-style smart contracts, and companies and game studios can launch chains of their own (Avalanche L1s, formerly subnets) and connect them. AVAX is its own coin.
