Meteora: Solana’s Liquidity Pool Builder and Its MET Token

A Solana liquidity service that began as Mercurial

Meteora is a Solana service that offers pools for swapping coins and tools for launching new tokens, and MET is the token it released in October 2025. It started life under another name, Mercurial.

1. From Mercurial to Meteora

Meteora began as Mercurial Finance on Solana. After the collapse of FTX it changed its name and announced a fresh start called the ‘Phoenix Rising Plan’. Benjamin Chow is known as a co-founder.

On the Crypto Nation map, MET stands in Solana City, because it was first issued on Solana. Meteora is not a separate blockchain but a service running on Solana.

2. Price-range pools and lending-linked pools

A pool on a decentralized exchange lets users deposit two coins to provide liquidity and share trading fees. Meteora’s flagship DLMM (dynamic liquidity market maker) divides prices into small bins so providers can place funds only in ranges they choose (within a bin the price is fixed, and fees rise when markets are volatile), while its Dynamic AMM automatically lends idle pool funds to earn extra interest.

It also offers a ‘dynamic bonding curve’ tool for people creating new tokens. The price follows a preset curve at first and, once it reaches a set level, the token moves to a regular pool.

3. Uses and milestones

When a new coin appears on Solana, where its first trading pool is created matters, and Meteora’s pools and launch tools have been used for that. When Argentina’s president promoted the LIBRA token in February 2025 and it then fell sharply, the token’s liquidity was reported to sit in a Meteora pool.

MET was released on 23 October 2025 in a token generation event (TGE). Total supply is 1 billion; part was handed to users through ‘liquidity distributor’ NFTs, including a share for people who staked Jupiter’s JUP token. Initial liquidity was set up in a Meteora DAMM v2 pool with a fee scheduler that starts high and falls over time.

4. Things to know

After the LIBRA collapse, investors filed a class action that named Meteora and Benjamin Chow as defendants. According to news reports, a New York federal court dismissed the claims against them on 29 September 2026, saying the plaintiffs had not shown that Meteora was an entity that could be sued or adequately shown fraudulent intent by Chow. The ruling concerned whether the claims met legal requirements.

Because anyone can create a pool for a new token, tokens whose insiders hold most of the supply can launch with the same tools, so caution is needed. Price-range liquidity needs active management, since funds earn no fees once the price leaves the range, and smart-contract bugs are a risk. MET’s allocation and unlock schedules are best checked in the official documents.
